Coleman Instant 4 Person Camping Tent
The Coleman instant 4 person tent can be set up in as little as 60 seconds, thanks to its cleverly designed pre-attached pole system.
Just extend the poles, snap everything into place and then secure the corners and guy ropes. Despite the generous proportions of the tent, one person can do it with ease.
If you want to spend your time enjoying your camping trip, rather than struggling to get your tent up, this is a great option.
Apart from the ease of set up, the Coleman Instant 4 offers excellent accommodation space. The plan area is 8′ x 7′ with a center height of 4′ 11″.
You will fit 4 adults in, but it will be quite neat. To give you a rough idea of the space available, there’s enough room for a queen size camping airbed with a little room around the edges for your gear.
It comes with an integrated vented rainfly – but you can buy a separate rainfly if you intend to use the tent in extremely wet conditions. As with any new tent, it’s definitely a good idea to seal the seam and spray some water repellant on the fabric before you use it in earnest for the first time.
Like all Coleman tents, wind resistance is tested so that you can be sure of stability in gusty conditions.
Here’s a short video showing a Coleman tent undergoing both rain and wind testing:
Coleman’s Weathertec system, featuring patented welded floors and inverted seams, helps to keep water out so that you stay dry whilst camping.
As well as keeping you dry, the Coleman tent fabric will keep you safe and is also damage resistant. The fabric used is fire retardant and is designed to ensure that, if an emergency occurs, the material will self extiguish, rather than flaring out of control.
The tent fabric also incorporates special reinforcing techniques that makes it highly resistant to ripping and tearing. It achieves this by the use of thick reinforcement threads, which are interwoven in a crosshatch pattern at regular intervals.
There are mesh windows in 3 of the walls for ventilation. One in each side wall, and one in the wall that the door is on. These can also be sealed for privacy and protection against dust or rain.
Inside there are handy storage pockets to let you keep your toiletries, cell phones, books and other small items tidy – and there’s a handy loop in the roof which you can use to mount an LED lantern or torch if you wish.
All in all, it’s a snug fit for 4, comfortable for 3 and nice and roomy for 2. It goes up quickly, folds down easily and stows away again in the provided carry bag. Weather resistance is good.
Here’s another short video which shows how easily this type of tent can be erected by just one person:
If you need something a little larger, there’s also an 8 person version available – as shown on the right.
It measures 14 X 10 feet and has a center height of 6′ 5″.
It is easy to set up (although the sheer size means that it’s best done by two people), and it can be subdivided into two separate rooms if you wish.
